General information
Directions
Take Evista exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended adult dose is 60 mg daily at the same time each day, with or without food. If you are taking Evista for osteoporosis treatment or prevention, it is important that you get enough calcium and vitamin D.
Precautions
Before taking Evista you should talk with your doctor if you have blood clot, congestive heart failure, irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia), cancer, high blood pressure (hypertension), liver disease, liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, kidney disease, kidney failure, high triglycerides, any allergies. Let your doctor know if you smoke cigarettes, have not gone through menopause, or have an upcoming surgery.
Contraindications
You should not take Evista if you are allergic to raloxifene or to any of the ingredients of the medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have thrombosis (blood clots). It should not be used in children.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have numbness, increased sweating, hot flashes, weakness, vomiting, leg pain, headache, joint pain, dizziness, nausea, stomach pain, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, tenderness, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance, fast heart rate, vaginal bleeding, body aches, hives, breast pain, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.
Drug interactions
Tell your doctor about all other medications you use, especially: diazepam, estrogen medications, oral contraceptives, thyroid medications (liotrix, thyroid, levothyroxine), blood thinners (warfarin). Interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are leg cramps, dizziness, coordination problems, vomiting, rash, diarrhea, shakiness, flushing.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store the drugs in the bathroom. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
